So what next?

As you begin your interview preparation, you can use our numerous 6med online resources and read our articles on how to ace the interview stage.

If you prefer to have more practice with students and doctors who have first-hand experience and tips on interviews, try the 6med interview crash course (which is included with our Interview Bundle).

The key to gaining confidence is though practice, practice and more practice. Make sure to use our workbooks which includes various different questions that are sure to come up.

A list of medical school potential interview topics are:

– Background and motivation

– NHS current affairs

– Knowledge of the medical school

– Work experience

– Medical ethics

– Skills and attributes of doctors

Note that interviews will either be MMI (multi-mini interview) or panel.

MMI interviews encompass a structured and timed circuit where groups of students rotate around 5-10 stations, with each station being one-to-one, focusing on a different theme e.g. work experience, medical ethics, communication, role play etc.

Panel interviews follow a more traditional structure (like a job interview) where each student is interviewed by normally 2-4 panel members who can be faculty members, doctors, older students or the general public. A panel interview normally lasts around 20 minutes, but this can vary. The key distinction is that MMI interviews are topic-focused whereas panel interviews are question-focused.
